Lodging Options on the East End

Lodging options have grown on the East End, but it is still critical to reserve early, especially in season.  While there is a ferry system between the North and south Fork, it would be wise to know the attractions and acivities that interest you so that you are not too far away from them.  A B&B in Cutchogue is not a good choice for a wedding in Montauk for example, nor is a hotel in East Hampton the best for visiting North Fork Wineries.

A true Victorian jewel, Arbor View House was built circa 1820 by Captain Vail when whaling was a major industry on the East End of Long Island. The historical nature of the home has been carefully maintained by innkeepers, Veda and Wilfred Joseph. With a nod to the newest industry on The North Fork, Long Island Wines, Veda and Wilfred have named their guest rooms after wine varieties such as Champagne, Merlot, and Zinfandel. This juxtaposition of the old and the new makes this charming inn the perfect location to explore the past and experience the present. The inn offers wireless internet, and whirlpool baths in a totally Victorian ambience. Spa services are available so you can have a massage in your room featuring an old fashioned red velvet headboard. Walk to the beach, sip wine in front of the fireplace, or tour the wineries after enjoying a sumptuous breakfast. This B&B is also very close to Greenport, a true harbor village, where you can ride a carousel or take a harbor cruise.

A Walk in the Woods Bed & Breakfast in Southold is truly a hidden gem! Located on a secluded 11 acre estate, this Great Gatsby Dutch Colonial only feels like it's miles away from civilization. In fact, it is a short drive to town, an even shorter bike ride to the beach and convenient to the North Fork wineries as well as lively Greenport. A Walk in the Woods is nestled among the pines and oaks of the Bayview area of Southold with grand Victorian style accommodations that are simply luxurious. Entering the main parlor for the first time from the wrap-around porch, I felt like I stepped into Scarlett O'Hara's Tara. As grand as they are, the parlor and library are cozy, comfortable and quite welcoming. Relax with a good book and a glass of wine in the parlor or enjoy a game of pool at the regulation sized pool table in the library. Breakfast is served in the elegant formal dining room with continental style breakfast served in the adjacent butler's pantry. If you prefer some private quiet time, any of the guest rooms you choose will fit the bill. All have full private baths. The very large Vintage Rose Suite is perfect for a bride and groom to spend their wedding night and first days as newlyweds with a large king sized bed, private balcony, slipper tub and steam shower. For families and large groups the Oak Suite will do very nicely. A separate entrance brings you to a spacious apartment with a master bedroom and full bathroom as well as a sleeping loft and second full bath. It also has a bar with microwave, coffee pot and a flat screen TV. Cedar House isn't your ordinary B&B. Innkeepers David & Donna Perrin and Frank & Donna Scarola worked to create an environment that's fresh and contemporary, yet totally in tune with the area's rustic beauty. Located on Sound Avenue and very easy to reach by car, the Cedar House's focal points overlook farm fields and a neighboring horse farm. It's a wonderful place to spend your North Fork getaway no matter what the occasion.

Whether you are seeking a weekend getaway, a "mini-moon" or a place to stay for your first night as husband and wife, Freddy's House B&B will fit the bill. A fabulous farmhouse on the edge of the vast Wickham's farm, this ca. 1798 house is on local and National Historic Registers, and its authenticity is evident from the moment you step through the door. Offering a totally private experience Prudence & Dan Heston host only one couple at any given time. Visitors have their own entrance to and from a large comfortable suite, and once settled in may enjoy hiking through the family's 101 acre farm preserve that offers access to fruit orchards, meadows of wildflowers, and a private beach on Peconic Bay. Shorecrest Bed and Breakfast is the only B&B that has views of Long Island Sound. From its delightfully comfortable sitting room, guests can view some of the most beautiful sunsets or walk to the beach on Shorecrest's private path to the beach. The new owners of this venerable property have done an extraordinary job on the grounds and in the interior. While still maintaining the romantic feeling, the home is also now bright and airy. If you have visited this B&B in the past, you will be delighted at the changes and if you have never seen it at all, you are in for a real treat!

There are few "chain" hotels on the North Fork. These maintain the degree of hospitality, cost, and ambience for which the corporations are known. Far more motels/hotels/inns are privately owned. Those listed below have been personally visited by North Fork Weddings.

This brand new condo resort is stupendously located on the North Fork of L.I, and is one of only a handful of places with water views. The sunset views are not be outdone anywhere in the world. Not only is the resort new, but this concept is rare on the East End which has mostly small motels/hotels and B&B's. Short of owning your own place or renting a house for the season, this is a very comfortable, convenient, and luxurious way to spend time out east. All condos are two bedroom/ two bath, sleep 6, have flat screen tv's, full kitchenettes (even a wine chiller!) and wi-fi. There's a heated swimming pool and laundry facilities on site and if you have a large group or family, it offers multi unit special pricing. It is located only minutes from the Village of Greenport and the Shelter Island Ferry providing traffic free access to the Hamptons. I found the pricing surprisingly affordable so if you plan a visit this summer, you may be one of the resort's first guests!

Wouldn't you love to slip away arm in arm from your party on a garden path to a romantic wedding night cottage? Elijah Blue & Company offers a cozy and romantic cottage nestled in the woods-just perfect for a wedding night or even a mini-honeymoon. After you celebrate with your guests, you can hide away in this secret garden, near the vineyards and beaches, where you can be found only if you want to be! This B&B style lodging is as private as you could want, with the hosts just a short stroll through the gorgeous perennial garden. Romantic and cozy as it is, the Elijah Blue cottage is also a great place for a weekend get away. It has one full bedroom and bathroom, but sleeps a total of 4. Found in Mattituck, right in the heart of Long Island Wine Country, it's just a short drive to shopping, golf, restaurants, and the happening scene of Greenport in season.

The Harborfront Inn is a 21^st century luxury hotel smack dab in the middle of a Norman Rockwell scene. The counterpoint of modern design in the lobby with its dark wooden floors and unique architectural details against the delightfully small town ambience complete with a carousel in the park and ships in the harbor balances perfectly. All rooms are spacious and have such amenities as Frette™ linens, flat screen televisions, CD stereo systems, high-speed internet access and massaging body sprays in the showers. (The bathrooms are just amazing, especially the Terrace Suite with its Jacuzzi tub!) The suites are truly magnificent, the largest having its own private 900-square-foot deck overlooking Mitchell Park, Greenport Harbor and Shelter Island. I just can't imagine a more romantic spot for a bride and groom. Many of the 35 rooms have similar views that are gorgeous by day or night. Every attention to your comfort and pleasure has been given: complimentary continental breakfast in the lobby in front of a fireplace and curved bar, local art in the hallways, lobby and guest rooms, a fitness center and inviting furniture. The hotel has been featured in many national publications and has received accolades from everywhere. It is convenient to all wineries, restaurants, shops, ferries, trains and buses. Truly a luxury, it is one you can't afford to miss.

Part of the landmark Port of Egypt Marina, Heron Suites is ideally located dockside at Southold Bay. It sits on the idyllic North Fork, on the East End of Long Island, near pristine bay beaches, farms, vineyards, nature preserves, golf courses, historic Greenport, and ferries to Shelter Island and Connecticut. The 17 well-appointed suites, accommodating two to seven people in studio and two-bedroom units, are fully modernized with the comforts of home including full kitchen and entertainment facilities. Lodging is available year-round and popular with those who boat, bike or hike; attend a wedding, seek a romantic getaway or are in search of a family vacation in nature's finest surroundings.

There are very few resorts on the East End of Long Island and nowhere is there one more beautiful than The Pridwin Hotel. Located on the famous Crescent Beach on Shelter Island, this property offers guests a wide range of experiences. You can read by the pool, play a game of tennis, swim in the clear salt water, bicycle the shady twisty roads, golf, hike, kayak or kick back! The hotel is available for weddings, corporate events, and family vacations. Rooms are booked quickly in season, so be sure to make reservations early. My favorite time on Shelter Island is early fall, so be sure to ask about rates for this time of year also.

If you love the beach, this is the place for you! Each room overlooks the Long Island Sound and has its own private deck and beach! The rooms are decorated simply but nicely and there are suites available. Children are welcome though there are some suites that are for adults only. It has a swimming pool, tennis courts, and cocktail lounge. One of my friends always has her parents stay there as her mother is wheelchair bound and the inn is so easy to navigate for the handicapped. Parking is directly outside the rooms and there are few, if any, steps through the entire establishment. The Soundview Inn is the only real resort facility on the North Fork. The Westhampton SeaBreeze Motel is just right for a newlywed bride and groom, your wedding party or your out-of-town guests as you celebrate your wedding, family reunion or other special occasion on the South Fork and in the Hamptons, and even parts of the North Fork. Tucked just off Montauk Highway, the Westhampton SeaBreeze Motel is easy to find yet private and comfortable, with the most modern of amenities. Founded in 1964, this intimate gem is a Hamptons icon. Erlene and her staff have made sure you will have the comforts expected in the 21st Century. The rooms are immaculately clean, but wonderfully cozy with two full-sized beds, free wireless internet access, premium cable TV, microwave and refrigerator. There is also a separate studio with private parking, that sleeps 4 and boasts a kitchenette - a great space for honeymooning newlyweds! The Westhampton SeaBreeze Motel is one of the best lodging values in the Hamptons, so don't delay your reservation - prime dates book quickly!

Located along the designated scenic byway and only a very short walk from Horton's Point Lighthouse and beach, this gorgeous center hall colonial provides wooded privacy, a heated 20X40 pool, three full bedrooms, study with computer, scanner, fax, and futon for extra guests, living room with fireplace, family room, large eat in kitchen, formal dining room and a private shade garden with hammock in which to wile away the hours.  This is a privately owned home and is not available for groupies, but there is more than enough room for an extended family.  It is available for monthly rental in July or August of each year, and minimum time is 3 weeks.  Rental Fee: $12,000.00 per month, all utilities included.  House cleaning and pool maintenance also provided.
